Le peintre de Tamaris près d’Alès, Jean Le Gac
(Part of Catherine Millet’s theme: (Auto)biography)

In 1976, Jean Le Gac "discovered" that a fictitious painter was at the center of all his work. To prove the existence of the painter known as "of Tamaris", he published in 1979 the book entitled "The Painter of Tamaris near Alès". Resulting from wall panels of 1978, this book tells "the saga of the painter", a set of images and texts, a kind of puzzle to be reconstituted by the one who looks and reads. The story alternates B&W shots with color views, as many clues to bring the imaginary painter to life.
