Légendes de Catherine M., Jacques Henric
(Part of Catherine Millet’s theme: Woman)

Since the early 1970s, Jacques Henric has been photographing the naked body of his wife, Catherine M. For thirty years, he has accumulated thousands of photographs of the woman who is the central actress in his life and in his novels. For this book, he has chosen about thirty photographs that he comments on and to which he gives meaning. These images, not pornographic but for some endowed with an erotic charge, do not claim any artistic value. They constitute for the writer a kind of memory aid, a reference point in time, the equivalent of a diary, and very often the fantastical support of his novelistic universe. In Légendes de Catherine M., Jacques Henric continues and deepens a reflection, begun in his previous books, on the links between image and writing, on time, representations of the body, the function of the nude, the fortunes and misfortunes of sex... But perhaps Légendes de Catherine M. is above all a beautiful book of love?
