L’ombre des heures, Thomas Paquet
L’ombre des heures, Thomas Paquet
In this series, Thomas Paquet records the shadow of a gnomon - an astronomical instrument that visualizes the sun's movements on the sky through its shadow - following a protocol that consists in systematically exposing emulsified sheets of paper. By repeatedly capturing the shadows over the course of hours and then juxtaposing the resulting cyanotypes, Thomas Paquet creates a sequence of imperfect lines that evoke a sense of time's poetic and meditative passage. Without any reference to scale, the eye is lost before these abstract partitions. Time is suspended in reverie, leaving one's thoughts adrift before an intangible and abstract.
