Mes modèles, Femmes-nues-à-l'atelier, Bernard Dufour
(Part of Catherine Millet’s theme: Woman)
By inscribing, I reveal. During these forty years during which women have come to the studio to get naked in front of me dressed, immobile, abandoned to themselves under my inquisitive gaze, until, packed with so much tension, they leave me, I have always known that they were waiting for me to reveal their bodies to themselves and to others, knowing well that the image of their nudity would inevitably be exposed and published, since such was the rule. They watched for this revelation with the haggard or voluptuous anxiety that is also mine when I watch this image rise in the revealing bath. "Bernard Dufour opens his painter's notebooks here, exposing his dual relationship with his models. His text is illustrated by his photographs of naked young women in the studio.
