Although Bernard Plossu’s photographs have been assembled into countless books, this is the first time they have come together as a map! And yet there’s nothing more familiar to this insatiable traveler - aside from his legendary Nikkormat - than a roadmap. Taken over the course of several trips to the Portuguese capital - “we’re not specifying the dates because it’s far more poetic” according to BP - the 33 photographs combine to create an intimate, moving vision of this city he loves so dearly.

A commentary written by his good friend Alain Bergala accompanies the images.

California Dream invite au voyage dans l'univers balnéaire des surfers californiens des années 60, un point d'orgue du rêve américain avant que celui-ci ne s'abîme dans l'exacerbation des tensions raciales et la radicalisation des contestations. Les photographies de François Fontaine interprètent ces films et documentaires consacrés au surf. Ainsi revisitées, leurs images gagnent en intensités, se révèlent symboliques et intemporelles. Les couleurs acidulées suggèrent le Technicolor de l'époque et les chromos pop art de David Hockney. Le flou fait basculer les photos dans un registre pictural évoquant Seurat ou Hopper.
