“This work, for which the artist Ilanit Illouz (born in 1978) has just won the Public Prize at the Rencontres d'Arles, is the result of wanderings in the Judean desert on the edge of the Dead Sea. She photographs this lunar landscape, arid and disputed, where man struggles to leave a fertile trace. The salt that covers this soil becomes part of the elaboration of the photographs: having collected it during her wanderings, she integrates it into her production process, thus fossilizing her prints, giving them a shimmer, a brilliance, and thus transforming them into objects beyond representation.” says Marc Lenot.
